Personal Development

Deuteronomy 1:30-31

“The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”

Who knew God was a boxer? Okay, confession…so I am not super into Pro Boxing, action flicks, or WWF because watching people get pulverized is not my favorite past time (surprising I know), but there is one Person I absolutely love to watch fight. I take great delight in thinking about the Lord fighting on my behalf. He fights for ME! Did you he God of the Universe goes before you and He fights for YOU?

What situations in your life do you need Him to throw a few uppercuts, jabs, or hooks? (Full disclosure…I googled boxing punches to make sure I am talking about God’s boxing moves in a theologically correct way…I mean He is God, so I want to make sure I’ve got my boxing terms right.) Please know that you are not alone… If you have any situations, you want to share in the comment section, our prayer team will pray for you and ask the Lord to fight on your behalf. (We nicknamed the prayer room “the war room” because we wage war against the enemy and his schemes…it gets pretty serious, come join us!)

Exalt God

Read Obadiah 4.  God hates pride. It is pride to believe that we are invulnerable and to place out trust in any other than God.  He will humble those who exalt themselves in this way.

ACTION:  Exalt God.  Glorify Him for the security and success you experience.

Growing in the Spirit

Read John 16:12-15.  John’s Gospel introduces the Holy Spirit’s role in spiritual growth.  The New Birth and baptism with the Holy Spirit endow the believer with the life and gifts of the Holy Spirit, including the ability to pray in Spirit power.  The Holy Spirit is our Teacher, Helper, Advocate, and Guide.  He is our source of true spiritual understanding.  he lifts up Jesus and builds up believers, enabling them to live a Christian life.

ACTION:  Understand that knowing the truth of God’s Word is made possible by the Holy Spirit.

Developing Humility

Read Galatians 6:3-5.  If you believe we are to spiritually mature to fall, we should beware!  The Bible portrays the sins of past spiritual leaders as a warning to us to reamin humble and open to correction.  We each need to reassess our personal walk with God in honesty before Him.  Each of us will be held responsible for our actions and attitudes.

ACTION: Be sober in your self-assessment.  Employ only Jesus’ life and teaching as your standard for judgement, not the performance of others.

Dealing with Sin

Read Galatians 5:13.  We must not allow our freedom from the Law to became an occasion for fleshly activity.  Also, we are accountable for one another and need to keep watch for one another as well as ourselves.

ACTION:  Be free from the controlling influence of sin.  Do not use the liberty that you have in Christ to sin against your brother or sister in Christ.  Recognize that the outcome of liberty should be loving service to others.
