Matthew 7:8-11

For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

I grew up hearing you can’t outgive God, and that God’s math is a little different than that math they teach you at school. For example, 2+5+God = food for over 15,000 (estimate counting women and children, who are super important to God, so let’s definitely count them). I wasn’t much for calculus, but I really like God’s math…

We have experienced countless stories of God’s supernatural math at DC Metro…during the launch of the church, when we were moving into our building, but the one I was reflecting on today was from the THRIVE initiative this past November. We prayed as a church for $500,000 for the new location launch, so that many others across the DC area can encounter our incredible God in a real, relevant, and enjoyable environment. Guess how much came in? $500,000! Over 900 people prayed and asked God how much to give. They each listened to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and $500,000 was given. God’s math, plain and simple. There really is no other logical explanation.

What I love about God’s math is not only the provision, but it reminds us that He sees, He goes before us, and He intervenes on our behalf as we step out in faith. It has been said that faith is the commodity of heaven. If that is so, DC Metro Church is going to be a force to be reckoned with in 2012 because you are church that is filled with audacious faith, walking in unity with each other, and we have a God who delights “to bless us abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having what we need, we will abound in every good work!”

Can’t wait to see you tomorrow at Vision Sunday, where we will hear where He is leading DC Metro this year and dream together about how He might use our lives to build a God-first culture throughout the DC Metro area in 2012. Get ready for more stories of God’s supernatural math and be ready to be amazed…He has such good things for us together, DC Metro!

Job 23:10

“But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

This might be my new vision statement for my life, “I will come forth as gold!”  Have you every thought about God is a gold digger? Actually, one of my favorite qualities of God is that He is gold digger. I know this is sometimes used as a derogatory term, but when you understand it as someone that searches for the gold inside of you and prophetically calls it forth, who wouldn’t be around a gold digger? This is God’s heart over each and everyone of us…to call forth the buried gold He sees in us, to refine us, and to make us look like Him.

He sees so much in you…As you surrender yourself to His leadership, He will do more in and through your life than you ever imagined…. but there will be testing. Testing? Yes, although I am not of the theological bent that God necessarily causes all the testing, I know from personal experience He will most certainly use it. There is no pain or circumstance that is wasted in God’s economy. It is an opportunity to say “yes” to Him at the deepest level and live unoffended because you trust His goodness. No matter what. Job walked through horrific circumstances, but He did not allow a root of bitterness or offense to develop. He trusted in the character of God and His leadership over his life through every test, and he came forth as gold. Just continue to say “yes” to Him….there is gold He is mining in you.

How has He used testing in your life? What are you walking through now that God is using to refine you? How can we pray for you?

Ephesians 5:1-2

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

This passage in Ephesians calls us to follow Christ’s example and walk in love, but it is important to note that he begins by saying “as dearly loved children.” I found the single most profound revelation for being able to not only love others well, but to love God well is to realize that I am wildly and irrevocably loved by God.

God’s love is not a casual or passive love, but rather a love that is intensely personal and pervasive. I encourage you to spend five minutes today thinking how much God loves you (ask Him for a revelation of how much He enjoys you) and see if it does not awaken and unlock your heart to love Him more.

The greatest two commandments found in Matthew 22:37-40 (love God with all heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor) are intrinsically tied. It is only as we gain a revelation of the depth of His love, that we are able to truly walk in the way of love, loving God, and loving others.

How has God revealed His love for your recently? How has this been a catalyst for loving Him or loving others?

2 Thessalonians 1:11

Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power
